Evil Geniuses

 

Every now and then, a book comes along that describes historical events, many ignored at the time, many hidden, that all together have had and continue to have a profound impact on our lives.

Evil Geniuses:  The Unmaking of America: A Recent History by Kurt Andersen is that book in 2020.

Who have been evil, methodical, and successful up to now?  The answer is the Rich Republicans.  Don’t blame all our problems on Donald J. Trump.  He is responsible personally for many Covid 19 deaths and many of our other problems, but his election and administration was made possible by many wealthy and greedy Republicans.

Andersen names Lewis Powell, Jr. (a Supreme Court Justice), the Business Roundtable, Grover Norquist, the Heritage Foundation, the Federalist Society, the fossil fuel industry, John Sununu, and the “restrained” Democratic Party.

This is a deep look back as to how we have gotten where we are today.  People and long-range plans made a difference.  I recommend Evil Geniuses as a must read for students of history, citizens, and Democrats.
